Wow, what a difference!

I've been getting used to photographing the toddler age, what a difference to photograph older cooperative children!  I love that the girls were naturals at posing for pictures!

Happy Halloween!

In case you need some help, CJ was a transformer and Nick was an Ewok. And little Addie is just too cute in her HOMEMADE! poodle costume.

Creepy or Cool?

A craftacular weekend!

Finally I'm blogging about our 5th annual Amery Bergeron girls weekend.  As always it was a ton of fun, and is best summed up in pictures (yes Jill, what's said in Amery, stays in Amery).

Down on the Farm!

Getting kicked by a donkey was totally worth it for these shots of Adeline!  So cute!

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

hee haw!

I can't believe I'm going to actually blog about this, but I got kicked by a donkey today!  I think I'll add it to my "bad animal" history.  So far (of the things I can think of), I've been bitten by a (few) dogs, shit on by a camel and now kicked by a donkey.  I believe the little guy to the left was the culprit.  Cute isn't he?  Just don't get in the way of his carrot!  A little background... today I went to this little "farm" to take pictures of Adeline.  Tiffany and Addie were feeding the animals carrots.  Well this little gem was trying to defend his carrot from the other donkeys and landed his kick square on my leg instead of the guilty party (not me).  No bruises yet, although we had a few (quite a few) laughs.  Stay tuned for the pictures of Addie!

More from the grilled pizza...

After Mara asked where the recipe for the grilled pizza was, I figured it deserved it's own blog entry.

Recipe from Sara's brilliant brain... (she did the thinking, I did the grilling)

Fresh pizza dough rolled from Brianno's in Eagan - this dough turned out great.  At first we were a little skeptical because it was so thin, but it made for a great thin crispy crust.  We took a large unbaked crust and quartered it, it was easier to flip on the grill, plus we could make different varieties of pizza.

The grill needs to be pretty low so the dough has time to "bake" without burning.

Brush 1 side of the dough with olive oil.
Place oil side down on grill.
Grill for a couple of minutes until it starts to "bubble"
Flip dough over - we found it easier to remove from grill and flip and oil the other side.
Put freshly oiled side down on grill.  Quickly put on your toppings (on the previously grilled side), and finish grilling (cover closed) for another couple of minutes just until cheese melted but crust not burned.  This took some tweaking as well with the grill temp and timing.  It was delicious!  Sara and I's favorite was the Margharita - fresh tomatoes, fresh basil and fresh mozzerella (the fresh toasted garlic was good on there too).  We also did pepperoni, sausage and other "more normal pizza toppings" for those less adventerous.

You should try it...fun and delicious.  Although it's a eat in stages type of meal.

CJ goes to KINDERGARTEN!!!

CJ's first day of Kindergarten!  I think he was most excited to ride the bus.

It's all about the shoes...even in Kindergarten.  He was so excited for these shoes!

a

He's all smiles, must have been a good first day!

CJ says his first day was "good".   He said, "I get to go back tomorrow!"  He's a boy of many words, except when you want him to describe something, than all you get is a "good".

I sum it up as a success...
1) He came home with smiles
2) He actually got home, they didn't lose him
3) He's excited to go back tomorrow!

A Weekend Up North

We spent the first part of Labor Day weekend up north in Deer River. Mom had a chance to come home between babies, and since life was about to get a little busier with SCHOOL it was a great chance to have a relaxing weekend.

The kids spent some time in the garden with Grandma picking carrots

Who can resist a wheelbarrow ride?

CJ contemplates if he is brave enough to explore "the cabin"

Nick loved Dad's old pick-up

Of course lots of time was spent on the tractor...city kids.

CJ built a cool little city out of blocks, like his new Vikings jersey?

Mom wanted a head shot for her new website being built, I love this picture...so Mom.

1 oz of bad luck = 2 ozs of good

My little trip to the library tonight (to return some VERY overdue books) (so I didn't quite make my 5 books in 2 weeks goal) turned a little unlucky. I thought the car was handling a little off, but it wasn't smoking, clunking or screeching so I continued on. At a stop light a lady rolled down her window and told me I had a very low tire. I headed over to the gas station where they had FREE AIR (really the SuperAmerica makes you pay for it), filled up my extremely low tire. I could hear air when it was full and figured I better let my books be another day late and head to the tire shop. I didn't even get backed out of my parking spot when, POOF it exploded. Oh shit. The guy in the SUV next to me, rolled down his window and said the obvious "looks like you got a flat". But then he and his son, changed my tire for me! I was proud enough just to know where the spare tire and jack were in the car. Sure enough the tire had a huge blow-out hole in the sidewall. I thanked him profusely and proceeded on to Sam's Club to get a new tire. Closed. Go over to Discount Tire across the street. Closed. I call Tire's Plus to find out the hours before driving more than I had to on my donut. It was 7:46 and they closed at 8:00. Crap. But, he said I sounded desperate enough so if I could come now he'd get me in tonight. Great! So, my little inexpensive trip to the library to pay my fines, turned into a rather expensive night at the tire shop. Oh well, what's another $1 on the books for another day. And yes Dad, I did buy 2 tires to have a matched set!

State Fair in Review

After getting the day off on Sunday (actually I was on-call), we decided to take an impromtu trip to the State Fair. Good times, good food, lots of rides for CJ!

Nick and his love of tractors...

Nick sums up what most people feel like when they leave the fair!

He loved the fast rides

Was a little bored on the slow rides

Who can pass up some free horns!

While Charlie and CJ went on the Space Needle, Nick and I checked out the new Leinie chairs

Love the Pronto Pump Hat!

Patiently waiting (over an hour) for his turn on the Turbo Jumper...

Getting strapped in (CJ I hope you remembered your underwear today!)

Ready for the launch!

There he goes!

And who can leave the State Fair without Sponge Bob on a stick.
